Ohio Women’s Basketball Falls to Buffalo, 73-43

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio Women's Basketball team (22-4, 11-4 MAC) fell to Buffalo (18-8, 10-5 MAC), 73-43, at the Convocation Center on Wednesday night. 

Junior guard Amani Burke (Columbus, Ohio) led the way for the Bobcats with 19 points on 6-of-17 shooting. Burke was 5-of-11 from deep while hitting her two free throws. Burke also had a team-high of seven rebounds, with four of them coming on the defensive end during her 30 minutes on the floor.

Sophomore forward Gabby Burris (Baltimore, Ohio) put up nine points on 1-of-6 shooting. Burris hit one three and was 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Burris added a team-high four assists and recorded two steals, one block and one rebound.

Redshirt freshman guard Kaylee Bambule (Plainfield, Ill.) hit two threes for six points while having two steals. Senior forward Olivia Bower had five points.

Ohio shot 20.3 percent from the field (12-of-59) and was 29.0 percent (9-of-31) from deep. Buffalo was 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the field and 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from the three point line. Buffalo outrebounded Ohio, 52-33 and UB outscored the Bobcats in the paint, 36-6. Ohio had 10 points off of turnovers and seven second chance points.

Buffalo outscored Ohio 18-13 in the first period. Burke had eight of Ohio's 13 points while the Bobcats were 4-of-15 from the field. Burris knocked down a three as well. Buffalo was 7-of-15 from the field in the first quarter.

UB took a 43-24 lead into halftime after outpacing Ohio, 24-10. Burke had two more threes in the half while Burris hit 3-of-4 free throws and recorded two assists. The Bobcats were 2-f-9 from the field while the Bulls shot 7-of-13.

Burke had her fifth three of the game in the third quarter but Buffalo extended its advantage in the third quarter after outscoring Ohio, 19-12. Burke had two buckets in the quarter while Bower hit a three.

Bambule hit two threes in the fourth quarter and Bower had two points as Buffalo outscored Ohio, 12-8 for a final score of 73-43.

The Bobcats will return to action on Saturday when they head to Akron. Tip off is set for 5 p.m. inside the James A. Rhodes Arena.
