ATHENS, Ohio –The Ohio soccer team will take the field for the first time in 2018, when the Bobcats take on Youngstown State in an exhibition game Friday, Aug. 10. First touch is set for 1 p.m. at Chessa Field. 

LAST TIME WE SAW OHIO
Ohio is coming off of a 7-10-3 2017 season. In MAC play, the Bobcats went 4-5-2, helping them return to the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2013, where they fell to top-seeded Kent State in penalty kicks. 

The Bobcats scored 23 goals on the season with 250 shots on goal in 20 games. 

Paige Knorr started in 19 games of her freshman season, with one assist and one goal, while Sydney Leckie registered a team-leading seven assists for the Bobcats. 

Veteran goalie Erin Beurket spent 1,128.28 minutes in the net with 12 starts and 53 saves, while Sydney Malham registered a 0.84 goals against average in 12 games.   

LAST TIME AGAINST YOUNGSTOWN STATE
Ohio defeated Youngstown State 1-0 the last time they met in 2013. After six shots on goal, the Bobcats' Liz Finely scored to win the game after a corner. 

SCOUTING YOUNGSTOWN STATE
In the 2017 season, the Penguins were 4-13-1 overall with a 0-9 conference record. 

Out of 190 shots on goal, Youngstown State scored 15 times with 10 assists. Kyler Lum lead the way with a team-leading six goals on the season, followed by Marissa Martin with three. 

Goalie Kylee Moffett started in 16 out of 18 games, recording 85 saves and four wins. 

RETURNING 'CATS
Starters Rianna Reese (Liberty Township, Ohio) and Mandy Arnzen (Edgewood, Ky.)  return for Ohio along with redshirt senior Bryce Hueber (Cincinnati, Ohio), who will be returning to the field after her 2017 season was cut short due to an injury. Alivia Milesky (Plain City, Ohio) and Sydney Leckie (Medina, Ohio) will also return to the Bobcats, while Erin Beurket (Milford, Ohio) and Sydney Malham (Nashville, Tenn.) both return in goal for Ohio.

YOUNG BLOOD
Ohio adds eight freshmen this year including: Sam Wexell (Irwin, Pa.), Olivia Sensky (Powell, Ohio), Maeve Maloney (Lebanon, Ohio), Haley Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio), Taylor Dickerson (Cincinnati, Ohio), Abby Townsend (Powell, Ohio), Morgan Collica (Aurora, Ohio) and Lindsay Townsend (New Albany, Ohio). 

BOBCATS ADDS TWO TRANSFERS
The Ohio soccer team has added two graduate transfers to the roster for the 2018 season. Maria Collica comes to Ohio after a career at Butler, while Michelle Rockey comes to Athens after time at Oregon. 

Collica, a defender from Solon, Ohio, is the older sister of freshman Morgan Collica, and perusing her master's degree in Exercise Physiology. Collica finished her career at Butler with 53 games played and 47 starts. She scored two goals and registered eight assists for 12 total points. She registered 16 shots, with nine of them on goal for a .563 shots on goal percentage, while also recording two games-winning goals in her career.

Rockey, a defender from Woodland Hills, Calif. is perusing her MBA/MSA in Sports Administration at Ohio. Rockey finished her career at Oregon with 37 games played, 34 starts, 15 shots with six on goal for a .400 shots on goal percentage. She also recorded one assist for one point in her time with the Ducks.

UP NEXT
The Bobcats open up the regular season on Friday, Aug. 17 when the Bobcats head to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers at 7 p.m. Ohio will then stay in Pittsburgh to take on Robert Morris on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m.
