MALE SCHOLAR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Name: Gerry Salisbury
Position: Left-Handed Pitcher
Year: Redshirt Junior
Major: Sport Management
Week's Achievements: Redshirt junior left-handed pitcher Gerry Salisbury (Brunswick, Ohio) gave the Ohio baseball team (8-6) six strong innings in his fourth start on the mound of the 2017 season, striking out seven. He gave up just two earned runs on four hits and a walk in a 6-1 loss to host Wright State last Thursday (March 9) at Nischwitz Stadium in Dayton, Ohio.
FEMALE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Name: Kristin Winkel
Sport: Track & Field
Year: Graduate Student
Major: Coaching Education
Week's Achievements: Graduate student Kristin Winkel (Avon Lake, Ohio) helped the Ohio track & field team to a third-place finish at the 2017 UNCW Seahawk Invitational last Friday (March 10) in Wilmington, N.C., as the Bobcats scored a total of 73.5 points. In the preliminary rounds of the 100-meter hurdles, Winkel qualified with a sixth-place finish, timing out at 15.33 seconds. She then went on to place third in the finals, shaving 0.30 seconds off her previous time to finish in 15.03.
