ATHENS, Ohio -- The defense had the upper hand during Ohio football's second Saturday scrimmage of fall camp today at Peden Stadium.

With a nice crowd on hand to watch the Bobcats practice on Fan Appreciation Day, Ohio ran roughly 75 plays of scrimmage work, and the defense largely dominated the action. Redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Amos Ogun-Semore (Dacula, Ga.), redshirt freshman linebacker Jack McCrory (Springfield, Ohio) and redshirt freshman linebacker Keye Thompson (Barberton, Ohio) each totaled three sacks while redshirt senior defensive lineman Brian Arp (Kearney, Neb.) and freshman defensive end Dezman Cooper (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) combined for another. Redshirt sophomore cornerback Tariq Drake (Leavittsburg, Ohio) came away with an interception while redshirt senior linebacker Austin Clack (Tipp City, Ohio) produced a fumble recovery

"We had a great performance today," said Drake of the defense. "We came out with a little something to prove. Last week the offense did a very good job of moving the ball on us and got a couple touchdowns."

Offensively, freshman quarterback Kurtis Rourke (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) finished a perfect 8-of-8 for 82 yards, including an eight-yard scoring strike to redshirt senior wide receiver DL Knock (Springboro, Ohio) that represented the lone touchdown of the day. Knock totaled 50 receiving yards on two catches, with the bulk coming on a 42-yard reception that set up his touchdown. Redshirt sophomore running back Julian Ross (Kansas City, Mo.) produced a 56-yard catch-and-run on a swing pass. Redshirt freshman quarterback Joe Mischler (Erie, Pa.) completed 10 of his 15 pass attempts for 128 yards.

Ohio will have Sunday (Aug. 18) off, then hold its final five practices of camp next week. Camp will shift from morning sessions to afternoon practices as the Bobcats prepare to embark on the 2019 regular season.

Practice 15 – Aug. 19 – 2 p.m.
Practice 16 - Aug. 20 - 2 p.m.
Practice 17 - Aug. 21 - 2 p.m.
Practice 18 - Aug. 22 - 2 p.m.
Practice 19 - Aug. 23 - 2 p.m.

Over the last 14 years under the leadership of head coach Frank Solich, Ohio has recorded 106 wins, captured four Mid-American Conference East Division titles, appeared in 10 bowl games and tallied four bowl victories. The Bobcats recorded their second-straight nine-win season in 2018, capping the year off with a 27-0 shutout of San Diego State in the 2018 DXL Frisco Bowl to record their second-straight bowl win. Ohio is set to return three All-MAC selections from the 2018 squad, including senior quarterback Nathan Rourke (Oakville, Ontario, Canada), redshirt senior defensive back Javon Hagan (Jacksonville, Fla.) and redshirt senior punter Michael Farkas (Mishawaka, Ind.). The Bobcats were selected to win both the MAC East Division and the 2019 Marathon MAC Football Championship Game in the conference's media preseason poll

Ohio will kick off the 2019 regular season on Saturday, Aug. 31, with a home matchup against Rhode Island at Peden Stadium. The contest is slated to get underway at 2 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN+. For ticket information, call the ticket office at 1-800-575-2287 or click here.
