ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio football team will take on Nebraska in the 2026 season opener at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb., the two programs announced this afternoon. The contest is set to be played on Sept. 5, 2026.

The matchup will mark the first-ever meeting between the Bobcats and the Cornhuskers, who share a common bond in legendary head coach Frank Solich.

Solich, who enters his 16th season as the head coach of the Bobcats in 2020, is the Mid-American Conference's all-time winningest head coach with 113 victories at the helm at Ohio. He has guided the Bobcats to 11 bowl appearances, the first five bowl victories in program history and four MAC East Division titles.

Solich arrived in Athens after six seasons as the head coach at Nebraska. He spent nearly 30 years as part of the Nebraska program as a player, assistant coach and head coach.

"I have been fortunate to be involved with both institutions and have many good friends and colleagues at both," said Solich. "This will be a matchup I know the passionate fan bases of Ohio and Nebraska will enjoy."

Ohio is coming off of a seven-win campaign in 2019 that was capped off by a 30-21 victory over Nevada in the 23rd Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Jan. 3 at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho. The Bobcats will open the 2020 season on Sept. 5 against North Carolina Central at Peden Stadium in Athens. Click here to purchase season tickets or call 1-800-575-2287.
