ATHENS, Ohio -- Rising senior running back De'Montre Tuggle (Channelview, Texas) of the Ohio football team has been named one of the top 25 returning running backs for the 2020 season by Pro Football Focus.
Tuggle is one of two running backs out of the Mid-American Conference to be named to the list, joining Buffalo rising junior running back Jaret Patterson, who is ranked third on the list.
Tuggle, who completed his first season with the Bobcats as a junior in 2019 after transferring to Ohio from Kilgore College, played in 12 of 13 games and ranked second on the team in rushing touchdowns (11) and third in carries (101), rushing yards (644) and rushing yards per game (53.7). He averaged a team-high 6.38 yards per rushing attempt, which ranks as the eighth-highest average in a single season in program history (minimum 75 carries). He also hauled in 16 receptions for 121 yards and a score. Tuggle led all running backs with a season-high 97 rushing yards, including a two-yard third-quarter touchdown, in Ohio's 30-21 victory over Nevada on Jan. 3 in the 23rd Famous Idaho Potato Bowl at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho. He scored at least two rushing touchdowns in a game four times in 2019.
Tuggle and Ohio will open the 2020 season on Saturday, Sept. 5 against North Carolina Central at Peden Stadium in Athens.
