ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio football team has released its 2020 regular season schedule today in conjunction with the Mid-American Conference office.
The Bobcats' 12-game slate features six home games at Peden Stadium -- including four Saturday dates. Ohio will hold its annual Homecoming celebration on Saturday, Oct. 10, when it takes on Eastern Michigan.
The MAC 2020 football season will also kickoff the 75th anniversary celebration for the Conference throughout the entirety of the 2020-21 academic year.
The MAC will release an updated schedule in late May or early June with kick times and television for the first three weeks of the regular season. All remaining game kick times and television will be announced 12 days prior to the scheduled game.
The regular season will conclude with the 24th MAC Football Championship game on either Friday, Dec. 4 or Saturday, Dec. 5 at a time to be announced. This will mark the 17th MAC Football Championship game at Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, Super Bowl XL, and the 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four.
2020 OHIO FOOTBALL SCHEDULE
Saturday, Sept. 5: vs. North Carolina Central (Peden Stadium; Athens, Ohio)
Notable: The Bobcats will be meeting North Carolina Central, which is a member of Football Championship Subdivision's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, for the first time. Ohio has gone a perfect 14-0 against FCS opponents since 2005.
Saturday, Sept. 12: at Boston College (Alumni Stadium; Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
Notable: Ohio will battle Boston College for the first time since Sept. 24, 1996, when the Bobcats picked up a 23-14 road victory. The Bobcats will be facing an opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference for the third year in a row.
Saturday, Sept. 19: vs. Marshall (Peden Stadium; Athens, Ohio)
Battle for the Bell
Notable: Ohio is set to host a "Battle for the Bell" rivalry game against Marshall for first time since Sept. 12, 2015 -- a 21-10 win for Ohio. The Thundering Herd got the best of Ohio last season by edging the Bobcats, 33-31, on Sept. 14, 2019, at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium in Huntington, W. Va. The Bobcats still lead the all-time series with Marshall, though, 33-21-6.
Saturday, Sept. 26: at Texas State (Bobcat Stadium; San Marcos, Texas)
Notable: Ohio will be playing Texas State for the second time and making its first trip to San Marcos. On Sept. 16, 2016, the Bobcats faced the Bobcats in a wild season opener that took three overtimes to decide a winner, with Texas State ultimately prevailing over Ohio, 56-54.
Saturday, Oct. 3: at Toledo (Glass Bowl; Toledo, Ohio)
Notable: Ohio has won its last two matchups against Toledo, most recently beating the Rockets at home, 38-10, on Nov. 8, 2017. The Bobcats last visited Toledo on Oct. 27, 2016, which resulted in a 31-26 victory for Ohio.
Saturday, Oct. 10: vs. Eastern Michigan (Peden Stadium; Athens, Ohio)
Notable: The Eagles will visit Athens for the first time since coming away with a 27-20 win over Ohio on Oct. 15, 2016. The two squads last squared off on Sept. 23, 2017, in Ypsilanti, Mich., which resulted in a 27-20 overtime victory for the Bobcats.
Saturday, Oct. 17: at Miami (Yager Stadium; Oxford, Ohio)
Battle of the Bricks
Notable: The Bobcats will be looking to halt a two-game losing skid to the RedHawks and pick up their first victory in Oxford since a 17-7 win on Oct. 1, 2016.
Saturday, Oct. 24: vs. Bowling Green (Peden Stadium; Athens, Ohio)
Notable: The Falcons are set to visit Peden Stadium for the first time since Oct. 20, 2018 - a 49-14 Homecoming win for Ohio.
Wednesday, Nov. 4: at Central Michigan (Kelly/Shorts Stadium; Mount Pleasant, Mich.)
Notable: Ohio will visit Mount Pleasant for the first time since Nov. 15, 2016, when the Bobcats suffered a 27-20 setback to the Chippewas. Ohio's last win over Central Michigan came on Nov. 10, 2011 - a 43-28 road victory. The Bobcats have fallen short in their last four matchups against the Chippewas.
Wednesday, Nov. 11: at Kent State (Dix Stadium; Kent, Ohio)
Notable: Ohio is 45-25-2 all-time against Kent State, including a 10-5 mark over the last 15 years. The Bobcats edged the Golden Flashes in their last visit to Dix Stadium on Oct. 6, 2018, prevailing by a 27-26 score. Ohio has come away victorious in its last three visits to Kent.
Wednesday Nov. 18: vs. Buffalo (Peden Stadium; Athens, Ohio)
Notable: Ohio blasted Buffalo, 52-17, in the Bulls' last trip to Athens on Nov. 14, 2018. The Bobcats are 9-6 against the Bulls over the last 15 years, including a 6-1 home record.
Friday, Nov. 27: vs. Akron (Peden Stadium; Athens, Ohio)
Television: ESPNU/CBS Sports Network/ESPN+/ESPN3
Notable: Ohio last hosted Akron on Nov. 23, 2018 - a 49-28 win for the Bobcats. The Bobcats are 21-14-1 all-time against the Zips and have won 12 of the last 15 meetings.
Over the last 16 years under the leadership of the MAC's all-time winningest head coach, Frank Solich, Ohio has recorded 113 wins, captured four MAC East Division titles, appeared in 11 bowl games and tallied five bowl victories. The Bobcats recorded their fifth-straight winning season and 11th under Solich with a seven-win campaign in 2019, wrapping up the year with a 30-21 victory over Nevada in the 23rd Famous Idaho Potato Bowl to record their program-record third-straight bowl win.
