ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio Field Hockey team is set to host a winter clinic series Feb. 24 and March 10. The clinics are open to all that are interested in grades 6th through 12th.
The Ohio field hockey coaching staff will be leading the clinic, offering young athletes the opportunity to train with an experienced coaching staff. Ali Johnstone and Andrea Rinehart will help athletes fine tune their skills throughout the clinic.
Johnstone joins the Ohio coaching staff as the 11th head coach in program history. Johnstone is familiar with Athens and the Ohio Field Hockey program, having earned her spot in the Ohio Hall of Fame as well as All-American honors during her time as a student-athlete. Johnstone's most recent experience comes from Northwestern where she contributed to the coaching staff that led the squad to earn eight All-American honors and a pair of Big Ten titles during her six-year tenure.
Rinehart will enter her second season on the coaching staff for Ohio after helping the Bobcats in the 2017 season. Rinehart has prior experience coaching for USA Field Hockey Futures program as well as the Regional Futures Tournament. Prior to her coaching career, Rinehart was a starting goalie at Kent State where the Yorktown, Va. native recorded 12 shutouts, 324 saves and 71 games.
Participants have the option of signing up for both sessions and each day will include a two-hour session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The clinic is set to take place at Pruitt Field, provided there is good weather, but Walter Field House will serve as the indoor location should there be inclement weather. There will also be certified athletic trainers on-site to monitor all activity.
