CLEVELAND – Redshirt freshman forward Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday (Jan. 29).
Johnson, who majors in sociology and criminology earns weekly conference honors for the second time in her career. She's the first Bobcat to earn the honor twice this season. Senior guard Dominique Doseck (Athens, Ohio) sophomore guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio), sophomore forward Gabby Burris (Baltimore, Ohio) and junior guard Amani Burke (Columbus, Ohio) previously won the award.
Johnson averaged a double-double in Ohio's wins over Northern Illinois (69-53) and Bowling Green (82-79) with 24 points and 10.5 rebounds. Johnson recorded a career-high in points (26) and rebounds (16) off the bench in Ohio's win over NIU, and also led the team in assists with five. Against the Falcons, Johnson had 22 points and five boards, five steals and four helpers.
Johnson shot an impressive 15-of-25 (60.0 percent) last week. The Mansfield, Ohio native went 7-of-12 (58.3 percent) from the three-point line and 11-of-15 (73.3 percent) from the free throw line in the two wins.
Ohio will begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday when the Bobcats welcome Miami to the Convocation Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
