BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Ohio women's basketball team (17-9, 10-5 MAC) fell to Bowling Green, 82-68, (9-18, 2-13 MAC) on Wednesday evening at the Stroh Center.
"The last two games defensively have not been up to our standards and consequently that resulted in losses," head coach Bob Boldon said. "I don't think it's ever too late to try and fix things and do a better job."
Overall, Ohio was 21-of-64 (32.8 percent) from the field and 8-of-26 (28.6 percent) from the three-point line. Ohio was 18-of-26 (69.2 percent) from the free throw line. Bowling Green went 29-of-56 (51.8 percent) and 13-of-32 (40.6 percent) from deep. BGSU shot 11-of-14 (78.6 percent) from the charity stripe.
OU was led by senior guard Amani Burke (Columbus, Ohio), who had 18 points and six rebounds. Burke hit two threes and was 6-of-8 from the foul line.
Redshirt sophomore guard Erica Johnson (Mansfield, Ohio) had 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Junior guard Cece Hooks (Dayton, Ohio) had 15 points and five rebounds while knocking down two threes.
Sophomore forward Edecia Beck (Grand Rapids, Mich.) had seven points off the bench. Junior forward Gabby Burris (Baltimore, Ohio) had six points and four boards while redshirt sophomore guard Caitlyn Kroll (Bridgeport, Ohio) had five points in a start.
Ohio was outrebounded by Bowling Green, 38-35. Johnson and Burke led Ohio with six boards while Hooks and Kroll each had five. Burris and Beck had four each.
The Bobcats assisted on nine buckets with Burris, Hooks and Burke all dishing out two.
Ohio forced 20 turnovers and had 10 steals. Hooks and Kroll had three each while Burke had two. Ohio had 21 points off BG turnovers and 26 points in the paint.
OU was down 35-34 at the half. BG was able to push their lead to nine tied the game with 1:16 left on a Johnson three. Johnson hit one free throw after a BG layup.
The Bobcats were 12-of-33 (36.4 percent) from the field in the first half while Bowling Green was 13-of-27 (48.1 percent). Hooks had a game-high 11 points in the first half.
Bowling Green extended the lead to 13 to start the third quarter. Ohio trimmed the lead to 56-49 at the end of the third quarter after Burke hit a layup with 31 seconds left.
BG pushed the lead to 12 early in the fourth quarter and Ohio got no closer than 10 the rest of the game.
OU was 9-of-31 (29.0 percent) from the field and 15-of-20 (75.0 percent) from the free throw line. Burke had 12 points in the half while Johnson had nine.
The Bobcats will continue MAC play on Saturday at home against Buffalo. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
