No. 4 Ohio Soccer Set to Host No. 5 Kent State Sunday for MAC Tournament Opener

ATHENS, Ohio --The fourth-seeded Ohio soccer team (8-7-3) opens play at the 2018 Mid-American Conference Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 28 when the Bobcats host fifth-seeded Kent State (10-7-2) at 1 p.m. at Chessa Field. 

LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats concluded the regular season on Thursday, Oct. 25 when they fell to Kent State, 1-0 at Chessa Field. 

SCOUTING KENT STATE
Kent State is currently, 10-7-2 overall and finished MAC play with a record of 6-4-1, helping them wrap up the fifth seed in this year's tournament. 

Currently, Kent State is averaging 1.89 goals per game on 308 shots for a .117 shot percentage. They have also registered 145 shots on goal, giving them a .471 shots on goal percentage. After 19 games, they are averaging 16.2 shots per game, and 26 total assists.

Leading the team for Kent State is Vital Kats who has seven goals and nine assists for 23 points and a .508 shots on goal percentage. Next, Maddie Holmes who has 15 points for the Golden Flashes. Holmes registers six goals and three assists. Isabelle Mihail has 13 points on six goals and one assist.  Cameron Shedenhelm also has three goals and five assists for 11 points to go along with a .543 shots on goal percentage. 

In net, Faith O'Niell averages a 1.39 goals against average with 51 saves while holding a .689 save percentage. Ashleah McDonald has played in six games, allowing five goals and making six saves for the Golden Flashes.

The Bobcats and Flashes last met just a few days ago on Thursday, Oct. 25, where Ohio fell to Kent State, 1-0 in the regular season finale. 

SCOUTING OHIO
The Bobcats are 8-7-3 overall and finished 6-3-2 in the MAC, wrapping up the fourth seed and a home game in the tournament for the first time since 2009. 

As a team, Ohio has scored 22 goals on 245 attempts for a .086 shot percentage. The Bobcats have also registered 130 shots on goal, for a .508 shots on goal percentage. 

Leading Ohio is Alivia Milesky, who has scored six goals and two assists for 14 points this season. Next is Madelyn Kah, Sydney Leckie and Abby Townsend all with 10 total points. Kah and Leckie both with three goals and four assists while Townsend has four goals and two assists for 10 points. Also contributing for the Bobcats are Sarina Dirrig with nine points on four goals and one assist.

In net, Ohio keepers, have allowed 20 goals and have made 83 saves. Erin Beurket has played 468 minutes, allowing eight goals and making 30 saves. Sydney Malham has played 1,240 minutes, allowing 12 goals and making 52 saves for an .812 save percentage. 

IN THE MAC
Ohio finished the regular season ranked fifth in the MAC in shots (256) and is fourth in assists per game (1.33). The Bobcats tied for third in shutouts (7) and sixth in saves (4.56)

In goal, Sydney Malham remained on top in shutouts per game while securing third in goals against average and fourth in save percentage. Malham also ranked tied for second in shutouts and remains tied for tenth in saves per game.

ALL TIME IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
The Bobcats are 6-16 all-time in the MAC tournament and have not won a tournament game since Nov. 11, 2004. 

Ohio has also never made it to the finals, making it to the semi-finals six times.  

OHIO AND THE MAC TOURNAMENT
The last time the Bobcats hosted a MAC tournament game in Athens was in 2009, where the Bobcats fell to Toledo in the first round. 

Prior to that, Ohio hosted in 2006, where they fell to NIU.  

THE LAST TIME OHIO IN THE MAC TOURNAMENT
The last time the Bobcats won a MAC Tournament game was Nov. 2, 2004, when the Bobcats entered the tournament as the number one overall seed and defeated Eastern Michigan 3-1. 

RETURNING 'CATS
Starters Rianna Reese (Liberty Township, Ohio) and Mandy Arnzen (Edgewood, Ky.)  return for Ohio along with redshirt senior Bryce Hueber, who will be returning to the field after her 2017 season was cut short due to an injury. Erin Beurket (Milford, Ohio) returns in goal for the Bobcats.

YOUNG BLOOD
Ohio adds eight freshmen this year including: Sam Wexell (Irwin, Pa.), Olivia Sensky (Powell, Ohio), Maeve Maloney (Lebanon, Ohio), Haley Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio), Tayler Dickerson (Cincinnati, Ohio), Abby Townsend (Powell, Ohio), Morgan Collica (Aurora, Ohio) and Lindsay Townsend (New Albany, Ohio). 

BOBCATS ADDS TWO TRANSFERS
The Ohio soccer team has added two graduate transfers to the roster for the 2018 season. Maria Collica comes to Ohio after a career at Butler, while Michelle Rockey comes to Athens after time at Oregon. 

Collica, a defender from Solon, Ohio, is the older sister of freshman Morgan Collica, and perusing her master's degree in Exercise Physiology. Collica finished her career at Butler with 53 games played and 47 starts. She scored two goals and registered eight assists for 12 total points. She registered 16 shots, with nine of them on goal for a .563 shots on goal percentage, while also recording two games-winning goals in her career.

Rockey, a defender from Woodland Hills, Calif. is perusing her MBA/MSA in Sports Administration at Ohio. Rockey finished her career at Oregon with 37 games played, 34 starts, 15 shots with six on goal for a .400 shots on goal percentage. She also recorded one assist for one point in her time with the Ducks.

PRESEASON POLL
The Ohio soccer team was selected to finish eighth in the 2018 Mid-American Conference Preseason Poll, in a vote of the league's coaches, the conference announced on Aug. 15. 

With 65 points, the Bobcats were selected to finish above Western Michigan, Akron, Northern Illinois and Miami. Selected to finish ahead of Ohio was Kent State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Central Michigan, Toledo and Eastern Michigan. 

Kent State was selected to win the MAC Regular season crown with 134 points, while they were also picked to win the 2018 MAC Tournament with six votes.

With a win on Sunday, the Bobcats will move on the 2018 MAC Tournament Semifinals on Friday, Nov. 2 at a campus site.
