Ohio Swim and Dive to Take on Ball State Saturday

ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio swimming and dive plans to travel to Muncie, Ind. to take on Mid-American Conference foe, Ball State. The meet will take place in the Cardinals' home pool, the Lewellen Aquatic Center, beginning at 12 p.m.

The Bobcats head to Muncie coming off a 202-96 victory over Youngstown State (Oct. 21) where Ohio recorded wins in 14 events. 

Several Bobcats are currently ranked in the top-20 in the conference after their first of competition.

Sophomore Emily Zimcosky (Smock, Pa.) sits tied for 13th for the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.67 and eighth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.07.

Junior Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis.) is currently fourth in the MAC in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.89.

Junior Ana Henderson (Danville, Calif.) is ranked in the 500-yard freestyle after her recording a time of 5:07.12 to place ninth along with sophomore Mackenzie Caruthers (Hilliard, Ohio) in 15th at 5:12.82.

Freshman Hannah Schlegel (Birdsboro, Pa.) made an impressive freshman debut in the 1000-yard freestyle where she currently sits in second with a time of 10:17.58.

Ohio has three ranked swimmers in the 200-yard backstroke including freshman Samantha Glass (Villa Hills, Ky.) in ninth at 2:07.14, sophomore Annie Gosselin (Naperville, Ill.) in 11th at 2:09.25, and senior Caroline Raley (Mobile, Ala.) in 17th at 2:12.74.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, sophomore Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland) and junior Emily Ortner (Concord, Calif.) are ranked in the top-20 with times of 1:07.18 (11th) and 1:08.28 (16th), respectively.

Junior Mackenzie Hornstra (Naperville, Ill.), Schlegel, and Ortner are ranked in the 200-yard breaststroke for Ohio. Hornstra sits in fifth with a time of 2:22.76, Schlegel in 13th with a time of 2:27.91, and Ortner in 16th with a time of 2:30.11.

In the 100-yard butterfly, Van Lanen is ranked first with a time of 56.07 along with Glass in ninth at 57.77.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Gosselin is ranked seventh with a time of 2:07.79, junior Emily Davis (Lexington, Ky.) is 10th with a time of 2:09.06 and senior Elena Patz (Waunakee, Wis.) is currently 14th with a time of 2:10.94.

Gosselin is currently the lone Bobcat ranked in the 200-yard IM in 10th after recording a time of 2:10.91.

Ball State welcomes Ohio after a weekend competing at the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet where the Cardinals finished in first place ahead of five other schools.

The Cardinals currently have three swimmers and two divers ranked in the top-ten in the conference.

Sophomore Peighton Gilbert sits at 10th in the MAC 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.55.

Freshman Audrey Schank is fourth in the MAC in the 50-yard backstroke with a final time of 26.73 and also seventh in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.81.

Senior Amanda Kedzierski is ranked third in the conference with last week's performance and her time of 1:05.53 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Sophomore diver Rachel Bertram is third in the MAC after marking a score of 2661.10 in the 1-meter dive last weekend. Bertram is also second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 276.50.

Freshman diver Caitlin Locante recorded a score of 218.65 in the 3-meter dive, placing her 10th in the conference.

The last time Ohio faced Ball State in a dual meet was during the 2015-16 season when the Bobcats hosted the Cardinals on Senior Day (Jan. 30). Ohio picked up the win with a final score of 194-102.

Since then, the Bobcats last saw the Cardinals in Oxford, Ohio at the 2016-17 MAC Championships where Ohio placed fifth and Ball State placed eighth.

Van Lanen was named the Mid-American Conference Swimmer/Diver of the Week for her performance in the Bobcat's opening week of Oct. 16. The junior helped the team by recording four of Ohio's fourteen first-place finishes and helped the team secure the first win of the 2017-18 season.

After the conclusion of this weekend's action, the Bobcats plan to host their first opponent of the season by welcoming MAC East foe, Buffalo, on Saturday, Nov. 4 beginning at noon.
