BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Ohio swimming & diving team is tied for seventh place with Ball State with 48 points through two events of the 2020 Mid-American Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, which opened this evening at the University of Buffalo's Alumni Arena Pool and Natatorium.
The conference meet kicked off with the 200-yard medley relay, with Ohio's squad consisting of sophomore Athena Aravantinou (North Bethesda, Md.), senior Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland), freshman Grace Riddle (Canal Winchester, Ohio) and freshman McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) combining to place eighth with a time of 1:43.52.
The second and final event of the opening night of the championships was the 800-yard freestyle relay, and the Bobcats' team of freshman Emma Fortman (Madeira, Ohio), freshman Madeline Marks (Bentonville, Ark.), junior Katherine Garrity (Eagan, Minn.) and Riddle combined to finish in 7:22.09 to take sixth.
Day two of the 2020 MAC Swimming & Diving Championships is set for Thursday (Feb. 27) and marks the first of three days consisting of two sessions, with session one getting underway at 10:30 a.m. ET and the second session getting started at 6:30 p.m. ET. The 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle, one-meter dive and 200-yard freestyle relay will be contested.
