Ohio Track and Field Wins Three Events at Winthrop Adidas University Invitational

Rock Hill, S.C. – The Ohio track and field team has completed the first outdoor meet of the season at the 2018 Winthrop Adidas University Invitational (Mar. 23-24). The Bobcats posted a win in the 5K, 800m, and javelin and totaled 21 top-10 finishes throughout the weekend.

Field Events
The weekend started with the hammer throw where junior Gaza Odunaiya (Athens, Ohio) recorded a throw of 50.90m and a fifth-place finish. Senior Emma Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) placed next for the 'Cats taking seventh place with a throw of 49.32m followed by freshman Abby Moore (Rootstown, Ohio) in ninth with a throw of 47.02 and senior Cassidy Cleland (Reedsville, Ohio) in 11th with a throw of 46.25m.

In the shot put, senior Jordan Porter (South Point, Ohio) placed third overall with a throw of 14.27m just ahead of Moore in fifth with a throw of 13.55m. Sophomore Tajah Haley (Washington, Pa.) placed 19th with a throw of 10.99m.

In the long jump, senior Anna Michael (Lebanon, Ohio) recorded a jump of 4.94m and sophomore Keilah Causey (Gahanna, Ohio) recorded a jump of 4.54m.

The Bobcats placed in the top-20 of the high jump with sophomore Atiya Spaulding (Chesapeake, Ohio) recorded a mark of 1.54m and sophomore Tana Barrett (Newark, Ohio) recorded a jump of 1.49m.

In the triple jump, Causey placed ninth overall with a jump reaching 10.71m.

In the javelin, Ryan added another win for the 'Cats with a 42.43m throw and a first-place finish just ahead of Haley placing fourth with a throw of 38.63m.

Ryan went on to place fifth in the discus with a throw reaching 43.34m just ahead of Odunaiya at 39.20m and Cleland at 37.29m.

Running Events
In the 100m hurdles, senior Mya Hodge (Dublin, Ohio) placed first for Ohio and 10th overall with a time of 14.96.

Junior Thelma Agyekum (Delaware, Ohio) placed in the top-20 of the 100m dash with a final time of 12.57. Freshman Abigail Summers (Powell, Ohio) came in next clocking in at 12.82 followed by junior Callyn Voase (Mentor, Ohio) at 13.01, junior Courtney Guiley (Louisville, Ohio) at 13.03, sophomore Olivia Brewer (Mount Gilead, Ohio) at 13.09, Michael at 13.15, and senior Kelsey Luebbe (Centerville, Ohio) at 13.26.

Ohio added two more top-10 finishes in the 400m dash with junior Emily Deering (Geneva, Ohio) recording a time of 58.72 to place sixth and sophomore Marissa Handel (Highland Heights, Ohio) recording a time of 59.06 to place ninth. Causey placed in the top-30 with a final time of 1:04.22.

In the 200m, Summers, Agyekum, and Hodge placed in the top-30 with times of 26.16, 26.21, and 26.29, respectively. Michael clocked in a time of 27.51 and Luebbe clocked in a time of 28.70 to round out the racing 'Cats.

Sophomore Tiffany Hill (Dublin, Ohio) won the women's 5K with a final time of 17:45.43 followed by freshman Hailey Bowes (Arlington Heights, Ill.) who placed seventh with a time of 17:56.97. Senior Christina Seas (West Union, Ohio) lead the rest of the 'Cats with a time of 18:26.10 just ahead of junior Shannon Kilbane (Lakewood, Ohio) at 18:53.52 and sophomore Emily Cass (Athens, Ohio) at 18:54.28.

In the women's 1500m, junior Josie Woosley (Pataskala, Ohio) placed fifth with a final time of 4:46.05.

Deering recorded a time of 58.62 in the 400m to place third overall.

Freshman Melissa Barrett (Englewood, Ohio) added an Ohio win with a time of 2:14.86 to place first in the 800m. Senior Jennifer Fockler (Canton, Ohio) placed eighth with a time of 2:24.92 ahead of junior Rebekah Markovitz (Columbia, Md.) in 14th clocking in at 2:31.60.

Ohio's 4x100m relay team of Guiley, Agyekum, Summers, and Hodge placed sixth with a time of 49.72.

Ohio's 4x400m relay, the team of Handel, senior Kaitlyn Logan (Granville, Ohio), Barrett, and Deering clocked in a time of 4:00.99 to place third.
