Ohio Track and Field Finishes Charlotte Invitational

Charlotte, N.C. – Ohio's track and field team heads back home from the 2018 Charlotte Invitational (April 13-14) hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Over the course of the meet, the Bobcats secured 30 top-15 finishes and Gaza Odunaiya secured a win in the hammer throw.

Running Events
In the 100m dash, seniors Mya Hodge (Dublin, Ohio) and Callyn Voase (Mentor, Ohio) placed in the top-15 with times of 12.46 and 12.67 respectively.

In the 200m, freshman Abby Summers (Powell, Ohio) came in 15th with a final time of 26.20 seconds.

Sophomore Marissa Handel (Highland Heights, Ohio) secured an eighth-place with a time of 57.71. Junior Emily Deering (Geneva, Ohio) and freshman Melissa Barrett (Englewood, Ohio) followed placing 12th and 13th with times of 58.16 and 58.21, respectively.

In the 800m run, senior Jennifer Fockler (Canton, Ohio) placed ninth overall with a final time of 2:23.87.

Ohio had two top-10 finishers in the 1,500m with sophomore Abby Miller (Mansfield, Ohio) finishing third with a time of 4:56.94 and freshman Tate Dawson (Doylestown, Pa.) finishing 10th with a time of 5:12.19.

Freshman Hailey Bowes (Arlington Heights, Ill.) led the Bobcats in the 5K with a time of 18:12.48 to place second overall. Senior Christina Seas (West Union, Ohio) followed with a time of 18:15.17 to place fifth along with seniors Mary Richardson (Newark, Ohio) in eighth with a time of 19:09.27 and Shannon Kilbane (Lakewood, Ohio) in ninth with a time of 19:16.85.

In the 100m hurdles, Hodge placed sixth overall with a final time of 14.54.

Summers placed 15th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:16.80.

Ohio's 4x100m relay team of junior Thelma Agyekum (Delaware, Ohio), senior Courtney Guiley (Louisville, Ohio), Hodge, and Summers clocked in a time of 49.16 to place seventh overall.

In the 4x400m relay, Ohio's team of Handel, Deering, junior Josie Woosley (Pataskala, Ohio) and Barrett came in fifth place with a final time of 4:02.19.

Field Events
Ohio added three top-15 finishes in the high jump where sophomore Tana Barrett (Newark, Ohio) secured fifth reaching 1.65m, sophomore Atiya Spaulding (Chesapeake, Ohio) secured 10th reaching 1.50m, and sophomore Tajah Haley (Washington, Pa.) secured 11th reaching 1.50m.

Sophomore Keilah Causey (Gahanna, Ohio) recorded a jump of 4.61m in the long jump to place 19th. She then went on to compete in the triple jump where she reached 10.95m to secure 10th place.

In the shot put, senior Jordan Porter (South Point, Ohio) placed second overall with a throw reaching 15.23m. Freshman Abby Moore (Rootstown, Ohio) was the next Bobcat placing fourth with a best throw of 13.92m.

In the discus throw, Ohio secured the top-two places with junior Gaza Odunaiya (Athens, Ohio) coming in first with a throw of 47.65m and senior Emma Ryan (Vincent, Ohio) coming in second with a throw of 47.63. Both of these throws auto-qualified them for the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships.

In the hammer throw, Odunaiya, Moore and senior Cassidy Cleland (Reedsville, Ohio) placed in the top-10 with throws of 54.64m, 50.49m, and 48.00m, respectively.

In the javelin throw, Ryan secured third place with a throw of 41.83m just ahead of Haley in fifth with a throw of 37.96m.
