Ohio Volleyball Announces 2019 Schedule

Ohio Volleyball Announces 2019 Schedule

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio volleyball program released its 2019 schedule on Wednesday (May 22), as announced by sixth-year head coach Deane Webb.

Ohio will face three teams – Green Bay, Purdue and Eastern Michigan – that made the NCAA Tournament in 2018 during the 2019 campaign. The Bobcats will take on nine teams in nonconference play that were ranked No. 150 or higher in the 2018 final RPI.

"We're looking forward to testing ourselves against the teams in our nonconference schedule," head coach Deane Webb said. "We play teams from almost every region in the country, so seeing different styles of play will benefit us greatly.  We will have the opportunity to play in or near the hometowns of a few of our players, and it's always great to both have our team in the homes of players and allow those players a chance for more of their families to see them play.

Ohio will begin the preseason with their annual Green/White game on Aug. 17 at 3 p.m. before heading to Wright State for an exhibition match on Aug. 23 at 4 p.m.

"We have the largest roster that we've ever had," Webb added. "So preseason will be even more important this year as we seek to acclimate many new players into our team and what we're trying to accomplish both on and off the court."

The Bobcats will start with seven-straight matches on the road. Opening weekend will take place in Green Bay, Wisconsin when the Bobcats take on Fresno State and Green Bay on Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Northeastern on Aug 31 at 1 p.m. Ohio will wrap up the weekend with a Sunday match at Purdue on Sep. 1 on 2 p.m.

Ohio's second weekend will take place on the campus of American University. The Bobcats will face Temple at 10 p.m. and American at 7 p.m. on Sep. 6 before wrapping up the weekend against Winthrop at 11 a.m.

After the seven-match road stretch, Ohio will host College of Charleston, UConn and Virginia inside the Convocation Center for Ohio's annual tournament. The Bobcats will take on COC at 12:30 on Sep. 13 and UConn at 7:30 the same day before wrapping up the tournament against the Cavaliers on Sep. 14 at 2 p.m.

"Our home tournament is always a great experience for our fans," Webb said. This year it will be extra special. Two of the best players to ever play at Ohio (Ellen Herman and Abby Gilleland) will return as coaches for UConn. I know our fans will look forward to seeing them return to the Convo"

The Bobcats' last non-conference tournament will take place in Denton, Texas at North Texas. Ohio will face New Mexico on Sep. 19 at 4 p.m., Kansas State on Sep. 20 at 3:30 p.m. and the host Mean Green on Sep. 21 at 12:30 p.m.

Ohio will start the Mid-American Conference season with last year's MAC champions. The Bobcats will host Bowling Green on Sep. 27 at 7 p.m. and Miami on Sep. 28 at 5 p.m.

"As we transition into MAC play, the first weekend of play will be a great measure of our potential place in the conference," head coach Deane Webb said. "On the first weekend we open up with the two teams that tied for 2018 regular season title."

Ohio will hit the road for four-straight MAC matches against Kent State (Oct. 3), Eastern Michigan (Oct. 5), Akron (Oct. 11) and Buffalo (Oct. 12) before returning to The Convo, when the Bobcats will host Ball State (Oct. 18) and Toledo (Oct. 19) on back-to-back nights.

The Bobcats will have another four-game road stretch, this time against Western Michigan (Oct. 25), Northern Illinois (Oct. 26), Miami (Nov. 1) and Bowling Green (Nov. 2).

Ohio will wrap up the regular season with four-straight home matches, facing Kent State (Nov. 7), Central Michigan (Nov. 9), Buffalo (Nov. 15) and Akron (Nov. 16).
