"We showed impressive fight tonight against a good American team," head coach Deane Webb said. "These are important team building wins. After the first set, it was point for point for almost two hours straight. Now it is time to recover quickly before playing again tomorrow morning."

After 20 kills earlier today, junior outside hitter Maggie Nedoma (Brook Park, Ohio) put up 23 kills on 59 swings and hit .288. Nedoma had her second double-double of the season and second of the day as she added 10 digs.

Senior outside hitter Lizzie Stephens (Dallas, Texas) had six kills while redshirt sophomore Dahlias Bouyer (Brownstown, Mich.) had five.

"Lauren (Park) came in off the bench and gave us a lift at a moment that we needed it," Webb added. "Shayla (Phillip) performed very well in the last two sets. Our back row stepped up in serve receive and defense tonight, and Maggie continued her exceptional play."

Junior setter Vera Giacomazzi (San Vendemiano, Italy) guided the offense with her fourth double-double of the season. Giacomazzi helped Ohio hit .223 and produced 63 kills with 58 assists. Giacomazzi added 15 digs, two kills and two blocks. Her 15 scoops was a season high.

Both Phillip and Bouyer had two solo blocks and three assisted blocks in today's victory. OU had 11 total blocks as a team. Nedoma had three stuffs (one solo, two assisted) while Stephens and Giacomazzi had two each.

After dropping the first set, Ohio was down 24-21 in the second set before coming from behind to turn the match and take the second set. An attack error and a block from Giacomazzi and Phillip cut the lead to 24-23, a bad set tied the second set for Ohio. The Bobcats took the lead, 26-25, on a Nedoma solo stuff. Nedoma gave Ohio the lead 27-26 with a kill and an attack error gave Ohio the win, 28-26.

After American won the third set and Ohio won the fourth, the Bobcats and American traded points until it was 4-4. OU went on a three-point run after a block from Bouyer and Giacomazzi block, an attack error from AU and a Park termination to go up 7-4. Ohio was able to hold that three-point advantage until Nedoma sealed the win for Ohio, 15-12.

The Bobcats will wrap up the American Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11:30 a.m. against Winthrop.
