KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Ohio volleyball team (13-9, 5-4 MAC) fell to Western Michigan, 3-2 (25-23, 19-25, 25-16, 12-25, 15-10), on Friday evening inside University Arena.
"Our good moments were very good but we weren't consistent enough with our play to win the match," head coach Deane Webb said. "WMU played very hard tonight and consistently made great defensive plays in the back row. We have to regroup quickly as we will face a competitive NIU team in less than 24 hours."
Junior opposite Maggie Nedoma (Brook Park, Ohio) led the way with 23 kills on 56 swings for a .250 attacking clip. Junior middle blocker Tia Jimerson (Sugar Hill, Ga.) had 15 kills on 29 swings for a .379 attacking clip. Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Dahlias Bouyer (Brownstown, Mich.) had eight kills and hit .389 while sophomore outside hitter Lauren Park (Millersburg, Ohio) produced seven.
Junior setter Vera Giacomazzi (San Vendemiano, Italy) guided the offense with 55 assists and helped Ohio record 58 kills with a .217 attacking percentage. Ohio had 55 assists while WMU had 54.
Ohio had 14 team blocks while WMU had seven. Jimerson led the way with seven and had three solo stuffs. Bouyer and Nedoma produced six each, while Giacomazzi had three and Park had two.
Junior libero Macy Reihing (Lexington, Ky.) led the way for Ohio with 23 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Ciara Livingway (Lake Orion, Mich.) recorded a career-high 11 scoops, while Nedoma and Giacomazzi had eight each. Senior defensive specialist Meredith Howe (Grand Rapids, Mich.) had six digs. Ohio recorded 65 as a team while WMU outdug Ohio, 71-65.
The Bobcats are back in action tomorrow against Northern Illinois (7-16, 4-5 MAC). First serve is set for 8:30 p.m. ET.
